Researchers at MIT and Harvard University have designed a face mask that can potentially detect if the person wearing the mask has COVID-19 infection, within a span of 90 minutes.
Detailed in the journal Nature Biotechnology, the design of this mask has minute, disposable sensors that can also be fitted into other face masks, and could be accustomed to identify other viruses as well. The researchers have stated that the sensors could be fitted into not just face masks but clothing such as lab coats as well. This offers a novel way of monitoring health care workers exposure to several different pathogens. James Collins, a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), said that this development could facilitate next-generation wearable biosensors for first responders, healthcare workers, and military personnel… (NDTV – PTI, June 30, 2021)
